ZACH TOMPKINS

Coach Tompkins is entering his 5th season as the head coach of the Golden Bears Baseball Program and his 8th season as a member of the coaching staff. Tompkins began coaching as an assistant under Mark Purvis from 2016 to 2019 before stepping into the head coach position in the summer of 2019. Tompkins has a career record of 107-69-1 in 4 seasons at the helm of the Mt. Juliet Baseball Program (3-0 in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the rest of the season). In 2021, in his first full season as the head coach, his team finished 2nd in District 9AAAA and advanced to the Region 5AAAA semi-finals. In 2022, his team finished 12-0 as District 9AAAA Champions  and advanced as 1 of 16 teams in the state to the AAAA Sectional Game. At the end of the 2023 season, the Golden Bears earned the title of District 9AAAA Champions and Region 5AAAA Champions.

Tompkins is also in his 8th year as a Business Technology educator at Mt. Juliet High School. Coach Tompkins takes pride in the school and community that he is from, and he is honored to have the opportunity to lead such an outstanding program. Mt. Juliet is consistently known for its success as one of the top high school baseball programs in the state, and Coach Tompkins credits that to the hard work, team culture, and drive of his players to compete at the highest level.

Tompkins’ playing career at Mt. Juliet High School began his journey as one of the mid-state’s top catchers from 2009 to 2012. During that era, he helped lead the varsity team to two state tournaments as the starter in 2011 and 2012. He then accepted a scholarship to play at Jackson State Community College, where he received two 1st Team All-Conference awards in 2013 and 2014. After Jackson State, he accepted a scholarship to continue his career at Trevecca Nazarene University. During his time at Trevecca, he helped bolster the Trojans to a Great Midwest Athletic Conference title in 2015, and he was named 1st Team All-Conference in 2016.

After his time playing at Trevecca, Tompkins has and continues to serve as a part-time bullpen catcher for the AAA Nashville Sounds.

Coach Tompkins dedicates himself to developing the character of young people and teaching them the values for what it takes to be successful in life beyond baseball. He strives in establishing a sense of family within his baseball program so that his players can experience being a part of something bigger than themselves.
